Tree Tag, a Kerala-based green start-up that is working to reduce carbon emissions through technology-driven forestry projects, has won an award. Tree Tag won first place in the national Climathon-2022 competition. Climatethon-2022 is a hackathon organized by Kerala Startup Mission in collaboration with Startup India, Nasscom, Tie Kerala, EY Global Delivery Services, UNDP and Global Shapers Kochi. Tree Tag was victorious out of 174 entries from all over India at the event which took place at the Kerala Technology Innovation Zone in Kochi on November 26 and 27.
The focus of the Climathon was on climate change and developing sustainable, climate-resilient solutions for the future. The competition tasked participants with finding innovative ways to meet the challenges posed by climate change, with an emphasis on the seven Sustainable Development Goals put forward by the United Nations in 2015.
The hackathon is the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurs, students, researchers, technologists and professionals to find solutions to climate change-related challenges. By working together, we can create innovative solutions that will have a positive impact on the environment.
The Tree Tag team has big plans for the future – they want to create a better environment in schools and colleges through their voluntary awareness and capacity building programmes. More than 10,000 student volunteers are currently enrolled in the Tree Tag application, with volunteers from the NSS Cell of NRPF at APJ Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University actively taking part in tree plantation activities.
